What is the best way to take skunk pee off of your cat?

My cat was sprayed in the chest and on his face and the tomatoe paste isn't working even though we caught it when it was still wet, is there anything else we can use? What is the best way to take skunk pee off of your cat?
http://dan.drydog.com/patsyann/skunk.htm鈥?/a> will help you.

What it says: ';Tomato juice or vinegar is not recommended because it only masks the odor--it doesn't remove the smell.';What is the best way to take skunk pee off of your cat?
It's not skunk urine if your cat was sprayed. Skunks spray from a gland to defend themselves - it's not ';pee';.

Our golden retriever got ';skunked'; last year. I found a product at our feed supply store (TSC) that I've used to de-stink our bucks (goats) for show. I think it was made by either Nature's Remedy or Nature's Miracle and was sold as a skunk treatment. It was about $9 for the bottle and it worked VERY well. It was an enzymatic product that you put on the animal, let it sit, then washed off.

I'd recommend that - I figured any product that could take the smell out of a male goat in rut earned my product endorsement anyway! Just make sure it is safe for cats as well.
Luckily I've never had to do this, but your local pet supply store should have a skunk odor removal shampoo.

My dog was sprayed, and bathing her isn't helping. What's the best way the get rid of the stink from a skunk?
Tomato juice or V-8 if you don't have a petsmart near by. There is some pet shampoo specially made for removing skunk and fox odor, but I can't honestly recall the product name. Tomato juice works fairly well. Rub the juice into the fur with just a little dish soap (just a very small amount), and let sit for 5-10 min, and then wash out with pet shampoo and rinse the dog like normal bathing from there out. What's the best way the get rid of the stink from a skunk?
Check with your local pet store or discount store. There are several enzyme based products that work GREAT! You put them on the dog (soak the poor, stinky hound) let it soak in on them for like 5-10 minutes and then rinse it off. If worst comes to worst, call your vet and ask where you can get it; they'll know!

Tomato/V-8 juice works so so. Every time the dog gets wet for about the next 6 months, you will still smell skunk.

The only dog I have had that got sprayed was a white cockapoo; sure couldn't use tomato juice on her, she'd have been pink! :)
MIx this in a plastic pitcher and use it immediately. It foams like mad!

1 pint of hydrogen peroxide (the fist aidstuff, not hair bleach)

    1 cup of baking soda

a couple teaspoons of shampoo other safe for humans soap.

Suds it all over her and leave it for a few minutes, then rinse.
i have heard that you could bathe your dog in tomatoe juice that will take the stink away . an old wives tale. dont know if it works
Tomato juice is about the only thing that will remove the scent.....

try to get your hands on an air purifier, if you can't, I'd suggest febreeze everything, put some carpet powder down, and get the air wick freshmatic, the ones that spray every few mins until the smell is gone. How do i get rid of a skunk smell in my house?
    Hi,

I live in Australia and we don't have skunks but there are other hideous smells you can get anyway. The method should be about the same. Keep treating the odours as you encounter them with a good quality product you may be able to buy at a supermarket. Here we have an excellent product called NilOdor and it works very well, but the applications have to be repeated from time to time until it is gone. I had a problem once when a little female cat urinated in the hall of our house and it went into the wood flooring. With the use of the NilOdor it made it bearable but it did need constant re-application for a long time.
looooooooooooooooooooooooool you should always smoke it outside because the smell spreads more than a fag. Erm i suggest you to spray an air refreshner thats the only way or smoke a fag let that take over the smell

How do you get rid of a skunk?

My husband and I have noticed a skunk hanging around our yard for a few nights now. How can we get rid of it? Shooting it is not an option as we live in the city. How do you get rid of a skunk?
Make sure your garbage is not left out for him to smell and eat. YOu can also try bitter sprays but we have not had anything work even with our dogs scenting the yard. You can also hire a exterminator or pest control to remove him from the areaHow do you get rid of a skunk?
They have box traps you can set up, you can trap him, then take him to the woods where he should be.

I thought skunk only spary when scared why is one spraying every night at my home?

Every night about 1 am the unmistakable smell of skunk fills our home whyI thought skunk only spary when scared why is one spraying every night at my home?
We had the same problem. I don't know why it sprays unless it is either marking territory or something else is scaring it, such as cars or city noise.

my dad found where it was under our house and sprayed a large amount of ammonia inside the hole it had made to get under our porch. with in minutes it fled the scene. He shot it, but also got in trouble shortly thereafter for firing a rifle in city limits so I don't recommend that part. after the skunk flees from the ammonia just patch the hole with bricks and dirt and scatter some more ammonia along the foundation of your house. I thought skunk only spary when scared why is one spraying every night at my home?
Skunks also mark their territory by spraying. Skunks also smell horrible on their own without spraying. Don't leave food outside for the skunk to eat, including pet food. If you live in a house with a crawl space, the skunk may be living under there. They can be removed by using a humane trap and taken away from your house to be released at another location. Animal control will answer your questions if you call them.
if you have a compost pile never put fresh vegetables in it they attract skunks.

buy some moth flakes and sprinkle them around the outside edge of your property.skunks shy away from moth flakes.

    Wild animal Poop?

Ok so I have 2 labs and neither of them has ever eaten poop or rolled in it before. I am pretty sure that we have a family of some kind of rodents living under our deck. The dogs sniff away at the deck in certain areas everytime they go outside. The problem is our deck is completely blocked off every where except near our AC unit which is in the corner and it is a very small gap. Today, I noticed my male rolling around in something very black and I smelled it. It was definetly poo but not typical doggy doo smell. The turds were real small (quarter size) and there were a lot of seeds in it. I live in Illinois so it could be Skunks (no smell yet), raccoons, possoms, or rabbits. Anyone have a clue on what it could be? Or have any ideas to get these guys out without tearing boards out of my deck?

he contacted me and the skunk is gone.
Skunks also spray to mark territory or fend off predators because it is the only defense mechanism they have. We trap just about one a year they go after our chickens and like to spray everywhere so no other animal will muck around with there turf.
maybe its marking its territory?? that's wat most animals do

If a skunk moves into a home, how does one get it back out?

I was asked this a few days ago; if a skunk moves into a home, how does one get it back out? Who can tell me how?If a skunk moves into a home, how does one get it back out?
they do not like moth balls. also, chocolate and whole sunflower seeds are toxic to them. bwahahahaha!

seriously, the moth balls are a good deterrent! If a skunk moves into a home, how does one get it back out?
try putting leaves of lettuce or small pieces of carrot down making a path outside. Another way, risky, stand outside with the door open and call the skink using a calm voice. That actually worked for someone I used to know
Have them call the animal control to get it out
Put on a Gas mask and grab a BIG stick ^^

  • How do you get rid of a skunk that has taken up residence under a wooden porch. City says we can't kill it.

The whole house is stinking. City ordinances say no kill, no humane trapping of wild animals in the city limits! We tried a bug bomb to make it smell different under there, but it won't go away. The skunk is bedded down. Once we get rid of the skunk, how do we get the terrible smell out of the house? All of the paint, carpets and curtains are new. Heeeeeelp!!How do you get rid of a skunk that has taken up residence under a wooden porch. City says we can't kill it.
    I found this online-

Skunk removal isn鈥檛 hard. The trick is to do most of the work while the skunk is out foraging so you don鈥檛 risk getting sprayed. Sprinkle a light layer of flour, chalk, or other white powder around it鈥檚 den and wait until nightfall. After dark [because skunks are nocturnal ;)], return and look for tracks leading away to indicate that the skunk has left in search of food and then get to work sealing up all of the entrances [how to build the barrier is on the site]. If you do this right the skunk will not be able to get back in. If he does, wait until the next evening and try again.

they have a bit on traps but you said the city won't let you...if this doesn't work you may have to hire someone. Good Luck!!How do you get rid of a skunk that has taken up residence under a wooden porch. City says we can't kill it.
Your best bet will be to hire someone to take care of the problem. Pest control for instance. Check your phone book. That person should have all of the needed knowledge and equipment to remove the animal. There are some do it yourself methods such as mothballs and things like that but they are not guaranteed to work.

As for the smell, as long as the skunk has not directly sprayed the inside of your house then the odor should go away. It will take a while. Once, our dogs trapped a skunk on our front porch. The dogs thought is was the best game they had ever played. The skunk and the humans were not too happy about it though. The house stunk pretty badly for a few days but we opened the place up and aired it out.
GET A VARMINT TRAPPER to get the skunk out and hopefully soon as they are about to have their litter at this time or early May. If the city impedes you in this process, bring them to task. you pay taxes for your house and they have no right to force you to live with one under your house. Get a lawyer and submit a bill to the city for clean up because of their ridiculous law of no humane trapping
Did you contact your local wildlife rescue or animal control? I'm sure they can help or point you in the right direction.

honestly, I really don't think that there is much you can do. burn a lot of candles. Vinigar wash whatever you can. I know that if for instance, you dog or cat gets sprayed with skunk... you're supposed to give them a tomato bath because the acid in the tomato kills the stink. I'm sorry to hear about your house. Good Luck.
Tomato juice sorta neutralizes the spray on dogs.

Suppose it would work on other surfaces IF you can find/get to them...

Watch out, especially if the skunk is aggressive,

as skunks have a good possibility of being rabies carriers.

Other than the animal control folks doing their job,

dispensing of lead poisoning might be your best bet.
Call animal control to remove the little guy... when we lived on our farm my dh decided to shoot one in the barn... yea, not such a good idea.. you could smell our house for miles!

For the smell ON things try this:

Hydrogen peroxide mixed with baking soda and a couple drops of DAWN or orange oil.

For the smell in the air: Oust spray will help...

but skunk smell just has to dissipate on its own... Also.. did you know their droppings smell? so you may need to get down and have that cleaned up as well..

    sorry! (Yuck!!)
Buy new clothes and move !

I don't think there is a good answer for that one, but plenty of fresh air, baking soda, scent sprays, scented candles may help. Be sure to permanently remove the skunk first.
Before you worry about the smell, I would worry about the skunk. I would make sure that the skunk is out of the crawl space and then I would make sure to place something over the opening so the skunk or any other critters can't get back in. Then I would go to the Mythbusters site and see if you can locate what they used to remove skunk smell! It worked better than store bought products and tomato juice! It was made with simple products like baking soda and some other stuff...and it would more than likely be able to be sprayed on the clothing and other fabrics to remove the smell. Good luck I hope this helps!

Good old fashion moth balls. The smelly kind, not the newer 'no scent' ones. They hate the smell and will relocate their home somewhere else. Just toss a handfull of them into and around the area that they are making their home, and they will leave. they should be gone by the next day. They are nocturnal for the most part and sleep during the day unless disturbed. Leave the moth balls inside the hole after they leave to prevent them from returning.
i trap them . it is about the only way.

  • How do I get rid of a skunk that is under my deck?

My dog went nuts this morning and ran to the deck barking and spinning and pawing at the deck, then he jumped back. After that we smelled a faint skunk odor, luckily the dog did not get sprayed but we want the skunk gone without killing it or ripping up the deck. How do I get rid of a skunk that is under my deck?
No, you do NOT feed a skunk or any other wild animal, for that matter. Teaching a wild animal to associate food with humans will cause them to instinctively lose their fear of people, which is a critical survival skill. Even though you want to be kind to them, it is very cruel to drive that necessary fear out of them. The next person they come into contact with may not be so happy to see them, and the animal will end up being killed.

Neighbors of mine had a raccoon ';begging'; for food at their kitchen door in the middle of the day. It had obviously been someones pet at some point, but the neighbor was very frightened (particularly that the animal might be carrying rabies) and had it killed. Feeding wildlife does not do the animal any favors!

That being said, skunks are primarily nocturnal, so to avoid being sprayed, do your ';eviction'; at night. Soak a few old rags or towels in ammonia and place them under the deck. Skunks do not like the smell of it and will not house themselves there.

Skunks are usually in pairs or family units, so you may be getting rid of more than one. If they have a litter under there, they should all be old enough to be mobile this time of year.

Once the animal is gone, you will need to use lattice board or some other building material to close up openings under the deck, or you will encounter the same problem again and again. Close up the spacing under the deck to prevent more skunks from moving back in.How do I get rid of a skunk that is under my deck?
Oh we've had that happen quite a few times. I live in south Texas and skunks like to occasionally make homes beneath our decks, etc. A cheap way to get rid of them is to put moth balls under the deck, house, whatever. Yes, moth balls smell funny, and that is why the skunk will run away. Contrary to popular belief, a skunk does not like a bad smell.

Its a fairly cheap solution to a problem that could end up costing you quite a lot of money. I DO NOT suggest feeding it. It is essentially the same as feeding raccoons. If you start feeding one, then others come around, and pretty soon, you will have dozens to deal with.
You could buy some of the animal repellent and toss it under the deck. It smells bad and animals don't like it and will leave. Cats and dogs don't like the smell of it so may be a skunk will not like it either. You could call animal control for some ideas also. Wish you luck on not getting sprayed.
i just feed them, my cats and dog got used to them and the skunks became so used to my animals that they felt comfortible to the point where you could pet them. They are of the same family as the ferret (weasel). I had 14 skunks, 1 dog, 4 cats, and a racoon that all got along.
maybe you spray the skunk with some kind of repellent,or water(hose)

other option is calling pest control and paying money to trap the skunk.can you see the animal is still there, or gone.

get some bear spray, try it, spray under the deck.
Skunks can't stand stuff that smells worse (in their opinion) then they do. So place a shallow bowl of ammonia carefully (you don't want to get sprayed) under your deck and in a few hours your smelly visitor should be gone.
they are nocturnal and wait for them to go out on their nightly routine and board up where they are getting in.

Just make sure there are no babies under the porch when you board it up

    I wish you luck
try to give the skunk food bye putting it outside or you can try to scared it

Why can I not have a pet skunk in Illinois?

There are effective rabies vacines, but why are they not USDA approved? These are such wonderful animals, why do people hate them so much? Why can I not have a pet skunk in Illinois?
Testing on skunks hasn't been done, so even if the skunk receives the dog or cat vaccine for rabies, there's no studies that can be used to point to in case your skunk bites someone and they insist it be killed to test for rabies (ferrets had the same problem for the longest time till enough research was done).

You can get them vaccinated, but it won't stop anything in the eyes of the law.

Yes, they're great animals--but they're wildlife even if domestically bred and raised, and often a permit is required because of that. Why can I not have a pet skunk in Illinois?
It's not because people hate them... but it is illegal in illinois... and in the states it is legal in there are many restrictions... these animals were made with smell sacks and sharp teeth for a reason so they can live in the wild and protect themselves...
A number of states have laws banning the private ownership of native species, even if they were purchased from a USDA licensed breeder, and not caught in the wild. It is not because people hate the animals, it is to protect the native wildlife.

What do you do for a cat that got sprayed by a skunk?

This cat is not easy to handle to begin with so I'd appreciate any suggestions. It must have been a very close encounter in our garage last night! What do you do for a cat that got sprayed by a skunk?
Lucky, lucky you. Well, it is not tomato juice that is suggested anymore. But, if not easy to handle, you have quite a task. A home remedy that can cut down on odor is a mixture made of one teaspoon of dish washing liquid and one cup of baking soda dissolved in one quart of hydrogen peroxide (3 percent strength). After thoroughly soaking your pet in the mixture, rinse him with clean tap water.

You need to do the washing while the mixture is still foaming.

There are also commercial products available. What do you do for a cat that got sprayed by a skunk?
not easy to handle to begin with is not good.

if you are able to handle the cat well enough to give it a bath, I would use skunk off, I live in Canada, so not sure if you are able to get it. Its for dogs, but it works.

Tomato juice I find the skunk odor tends to linger longer and sometime requires more then one bath.

If your cat is like the one I had years ago, your going to have to call the vet and ask them to knock it out or something so you can come out of it in one piece. Near water that cat went ballistic, front and rear claws %26amp; teeth dug into my arms all at the same time.
Taking her to the vet would be the best bet, since she isn't easy to handle. You don't want to lose a limb trying to bath her :)

Is she an inside/outside cat? Or just outside? The reason I am asking - if you keep her inside and didn't know right away what the smell was, it will remain on your furniture for MONTHS. There truly is no way to get the smell out of fabric and clothes IF the cat came inside shortly after being sprayed. There may be something now, but I know years ago, there was nothing.
There's not much you can do for the cat. You could try bathing it in tomato juice but it would be very hard if the cat is not easy to handle. If the cat lives outdoors you don't have to do anything about it. When our cats get sprayed we just leave them alone and the smell will go away within a week.
first off it's tomato paste not juice. the paste absorbs better because it's thicker. this does require the cat to be handled so be care full not to get hurt. make sure you hold all four paws, two in each hand while someone else puts the paste on the cat.
Here is a step by step way to rid your cat of the smell. Very good peice of information. Good luck!

Best way to get rid of skunk smell on my puppy?

Two days ago my puppy was sprayed by a skunk early in the morning. Since we couldn't go up to a pet store to buy some skunk odor shampoo, my sister found a website listing ingredients to make your own anti skunk smell for dogs. We used it, and it partially worked and gave him another bath later that day, but it's his face that still smells two days later. How can we get rid of it on his face? I'm afraid of using skunk odor shampoo (that we bought later in the day) that close to his eyes because it might hurt him. Thank you!Best way to get rid of skunk smell on my puppy?
I live in the woods and have several labs..and trust me they get sprayed often....I too have tried using tomato sauce and even tried Massingale douches, which the douches work great, however, the best thing I have used that works is soaking them in vinegar water for about 5 minutes. I use 3 cups vinegar to a tub of warm water....for a pup, you probably could use 2 cups to a sink of water....this is the safest, and if it gets in the eyes its not harmful. Best of luck!Best way to get rid of skunk smell on my puppy?
Dont know if it works but i have heard using a douche lol
open a coke and let it go flat and soak him in it
bathe him in white vinegar. just don't get it in his eyes or oup his nose. this should neutralize the odor as well as is possible considering. Maybe shave him down too.
I have always heard tomoto juice, but I think vinegar oculd do the trick as well!
use coke...but make sure its flat.
    TOMATOE JUICE
Sorry to tell you but from all my experience ( A LOT) nothing really ever take away the smell. The best thing to do is to just deal with it. You can always try the products at the pet store but not much else.
Your right the tomatoe thing don't work..

go to wal-mart and get a bottle of SELSON BLUE

dandruff shampoo, but that will work . Probably for the puppy just dilute it a little and bathe him in that
Tomato juice and then a good bath! It will wear off quickly though! Been there, done that! Spray off his face with plain water and it will go away eventually. Be careful not to get water up his nose or in his ears!
Just like humans. Give him a bath, but instead of water, use tomato juice. Make sure it doesnt get in his eyes or ears.
    tomato sauce
Flat coke.. Open a bottle of coke, let it go flat.. And wash his face with it..
My mom used to say Tomato Juice...I have no idea if that will work! It's good that you didn't panic and hurt his eyes with shampoo! Thank goodness! I would call around to the pet stores and see if they have numbers for dog breeders, kennel owners and rescue groups. Most of these folks will give free advice over the phone!
Douche. Just the plain old vinegar/water mixture...not the ';spring meadow';, ';morning dewdrop'; smelling stuff.
It's ok to wash your dog's face, to protect his eyes, just put a couple of drops of mineral oil in each eye before his bath. Also, I use a washcloth on my dogs' faces, it helps me to avoid their eye area. Pure Pet makes a great deodorizing shampoo, if it's available in your area, and I have heard that the douche recommended by others works, as well.
my grandma says tomato sauce will do the trick

My cat got sprayed by a skunk, how do you get the smell off of him?

My pet cat is a outdoor cat who comes inside when he pleases. But my family had noticed he had a skunk smell coming off of him. He doesn't like water very much, so it'd be pretty hard to give him a bath. Anyone know ways to get the smell off without water? My cat got sprayed by a skunk, how do you get the smell off of him?
honestly ... please don't laugh ... when I was working as a dog groomer ... we alway alway alway used ... a douche ...

go to the local drugstore ... CVS ... riteaid ... even WalMart and Target have them ... and buy a Summers Eve ... use it as it says to ... make sure none gets in the cat's ears (hold them closed)

good luck and keep kitty away from skunksMy cat got sprayed by a skunk, how do you get the smell off of him?
Wash him in tomato sause. Just like humans do.
bath him in tomtato juice. Let him soak for a few minutes in it, before rinses and using reg. shampoo
What ever you do, dont spary him again, with any perfume or something like that.

try getting him with a few dashes of water, not loads so he is wet, just enough so he has to lick himself dry, and the smell goes.

my cat decided to jump into a compost bin, then i gave him a few dashes of water, then he sat and then laid down in cold water full in a bowl, just his head sticking out, my cat loves water...how strange...
tomato jucie. bath it in it.
Give him a tomato juice bath...
everyone says to bathe him in tomato juice but i read that tomato is dangerous for cats. my cat never got sprayed so i never had to deal with this but it's a caution i'd like to tell you about http://www.felinefuture.com/nutrition/to鈥?/a> maybe you should call a vet and ask them what to do :)

anyways besides that tomato case and a lot of other sites advising against tomatos, here is a site that will help you deal with getting rid of skunky smell. also they warn you about possible rabies from them http://www.pets.ca/pettips/tips-51.htm

What do you do if a skunk approaches you?

My friend had a close encounter with an angry skunk and she didn't know what do it! Run away or freeze? Please help! Thanks in advanced : )What do you do if a skunk approaches you?
neither. you back away as slowly as possible, watching the skunk for agitation. they really aren't as apt to spray as you might think. What do you do if a skunk approaches you?
What i would do is slowly back away. VERY SLOWLY! If you go too fast then the skunk will likly get scared and will spray. But if you stay right there, its also not a good idea because you might have to sneeze or something and that could also cause the skunk to spray.
I'm going to go with walk briskly in the opposite direction.
run away immediately!!! if a skunk sprays its odor on u man oh man youll be smelling for days.
    Run Run Run
whatever is to be done skunk will do. i will not do anything.

How to get rid of the skunk but not the cat?

There is a street cat I was feeding in my back yard. How can I get rid of the skunk that comes and eats the cat food at the same time not driving away the cat? The critter-repellent with the fox-urine would probably scare away the cat as well, right? How to get rid of the skunk but not the cat?
If you know it is only one particular skunk which is coming around, you can call for a ';pest removal'; service to trap the skunk. They have specialized traps that only skunks can get into and that are designed so they can't spray. Around here, the trapping of a skunk runs about $60 per skunk.

Otherwise, the best alternative is NOT to leave food out particularly overnight. The skunks are most active at night... rarely in the daytime. So, if you take IN the food at night, it is less likely to attract the skunk.

Me... kittyslave23... I know my place. How to get rid of the skunk but not the cat?
Feed the cat at the same time every day, and put out just enough for the cat. And try to get the cat to eat closer to your house. Are you planning on trying to bring the cat in and make a pet of it? If so I would recommend getting a havahart humane trap and trapping the cat, and bringing it indoors. The alley cat allies have a lot of great advice on their website: www.alleycat.org
AS a trapper, i can tell you the fox urine stuff will NOT deter the skunk nor the cat. It will actually ATTRACT them. all animals are interested n other animlas scents.

Your best bet is to trap the skunk and relocate. there are ';tube'; type traps that you can safely trap the skunk, and remove him without being sprayed. Use a rotten meat for bait, they love that.

Cheack out www.minntrapprod.com to get the tube type trap, or, i reccomend hiring a Animal Damage Control trapper to remove it.
If you are putting food outside your home you cannot pick and choose who is going to come to eat it. Either don't feed the cat, or deal with wildlife coming to eat it. You can feed the cat in the day and pick up the dish each night before the nocturnal wildlife comes out to feed and hunt.

Some how I think that's meant to be racist or really intellectual morphism but I can't figure it out and I don't care.

In real life if you have a skunk in your home or bedroom, you can get it out by enticeing it to go outside. Yelling or turnign on lights or going angry doesn't work. Try putting food like lettuce and peanut butter (the like that --- see I know what they like) outside in a trail leading away from your home. Start at the point you want them to arrive at, like the woods and work your way back. Be careful as this will have the reverse affect of bringing animals to your place too.

The problem with getting rid of a skunk actively is that the wolves and bears sometimes try to come in using the same trail.
Create a path to the front door and let it wander out on it's own. If you try to coerce it it you will have a stinky mess. Also you could call animal control and they may be able to help you. they will only spray if they feel they are in danger, otherwise they are peaceful animals.
Yep, the treats will work, you may have to stay out of sight. Make sure there are no dogs or cats or people around. I gave one frosted mini-wheats. he liked them. Sure was dry after wards though.

When you screw up...they say tomatoes will kill the smell.
Well, skunks spray as a defense mechanism, so if you can find a way to contain the skunk without scaring it then you can get it out of your room.

Anyone know how to get the skunk odor off of a dog?

My dog was just sprayed by a skunk and I have found so many different suggestions online for how to get the smell off. Anyone have a recommendation that they have actually used and seen work? Thanks!Anyone know how to get the skunk odor off of a dog?
Tomato Juice does NOT work. I can tell you this from LOTS of experience. I have a Husky that like to hunt skunks. We tried Tomato Juice and it masks the scent for a few hours, but it does not get rid of that TERRIBLE stench. To neutralize the scent, you have to use 1 Quart of Hydrogen Peroxide, 1/4 cup of baking Soda, and 1 tsp of liquid dish soap. Spray the stuff all over your dog (for mine, several batches were required) and make sure it soaks all the way through the fur and do not get it too close to their eyes (get some skunk out for that). Let it sit on them for about five minutes. Then just rinse off or bathe (the dog) as you usually do. It also works on getting the skunk smell off of you, which if you are handling a skunked dog you will smell terrible after the ordeal. Some people say Vinegar works, it does not work (this I also know from experience). Good Luck.Anyone know how to get the skunk odor off of a dog?
i used a mixture of peroxide baking soda and pantene 2 in 1 shampoo. it worked great, although it smelled like hair dye. i didnt measure anything precisely, but it was about a half cup of baking soda, a quarter cup of peroxide and a few tablespoons of pantene.

The best and fastest thing I have found that works on my dogs is tomato soup.
use a mixture of hydrogen peroxide , baking soda, and dawn dishsoap, sorry but i dint ember the correct amounts, its what the groomer at work uses it works, just remember to toss any leftovers, and if your dog is black its coat may be a little reddish when your done also you have to leave it on for 15 mins. or about that maybe you can find a recipe online its called skunk suds
I am sure you have already done a search. Use the recipe calling for hydrogen peroxide, baking soda and dish washing liquid.

    It really works.
Listen I had a dog years ago and it got sprayed by a skunk and I'll tell you that the best is a bath in tomatoe juice. Yes, Tomatoe juice. Please believe me. IT works. Nothing else will. When I had to was the dog, my grandfather told me what to do. He gave me the money to go up the street and buy the cans of tomatoe juice. It worked. I washed the dog, he didn't like it but he got it. I hope this helps. Regards, Ammoconfidential
at the groom shop i work at we use dog shampoo mixed with baking soda and peroxide, it seems to work pretty well. i've also heard that using instant coffee made dubble strong works, but i haven't tried that
My dog was sprayed last year... i gave her a bath in tomato juice... just the type you can get at any grocery store. I just poured it all over her... and massaged it into her fur... and let it soak for about 20 minutes.. and rinsed. I had to do twice do get the smell completely gone, but it worked for me.
Bathe the dog in tomoatoe juice. they also have specila shampoos at pets stores but they are a little expensive. Try the tomatoe juice first.
my car got sprayed and the only thing that worked was to douse the whole thing in tomato juice. yucky and sticky but true.
Do what you would with a human, bathe him in tomato juice.Good luck on getting the smell out!
use tomato jucie it work used it last week on my dog
    tomato sauce/canned tomatoes/tomato soup

It works better then anything they have in stores.

If you dont like tomatoes, this answer makes no sense
    tomato juice
    Tomatoe Juice!!! It works
tomato Juice but the dog dont smell to great after words ether but he wont smell like skunk
wash him in tomato juice.. from what I understand, that is the only thing that works.
    tomato sauce bath
The only way to get rid of the horrible odor, is to give your dog a bath in Tomato Juice. This is the only thing that will completely destroy the awful smell. It absolutely works, give it a try immediately.
When I worked as a dog groomer we used to mix the shampoo with Coca Cola. The acidity cuts the odor. Also used vinegar to rinse them with. Never had much luck with tomato juice.
I've never tried tomato juice, but I hear it works.

Oh, and Dawn dishwashing liquid is supposed to be very good for getting the skunk oil out.

The first time my dog got sprayed, I used every flowery shampoo I had and that made it worse. The second time, I made her sleep outside and then took her to a pet salon and had her bathed with a special de-skunking shampoo....the third time, was the day after she was bathed at the salon...I took her back and they bathed her again, but the odor remained.

The fourth time she got sprayed, I got a Lysol wipe and wiped it over her face and avoided smelling her until it wore off.
TOMATO JUICE. pour it all over him. then wash it out.

  • How do you get rid of skunk smell on animals???

My cat was sprayed in the eyes and we need to find a way quickly to clean him off!!!!How do you get rid of skunk smell on animals???
Ohhh in the eyes? Use a saline solution like Just like tears kind of stuff. NOT Visine!! You will want to thoroughly flush the eyes many times. You may have to visit the vet tomorrow because it can be really harmful to the eyes. Since its on the face you can only use tear free shampoo, they sell skunk shampoo in the pet stores but I don't know that they are ok to use near the eyes. For right now just flush the eyes and use a tear free shampoo. How do you get rid of skunk smell on animals???
Brianna T's answer is great. You should purchase a few cans of store brand tomato juice, just in case. It's cheap and stays on the shelf. It's worth it if you have a pet and live around skunks. The dogs and cats always get it in the face!
try vineger, water and baking soda and wash the cat down. Dont get it in the cats eyes.
Probably the same as you do for a dog, but be careful of the eyes. I use tomato juice, but if not handy, vinegar and water.
    http://www.pethealth101.com/odor/odor_sk鈥?/a>

wash around the eye area carefully, the vet could probably recommend eye drops so it doesn't get infected.
This was on mythbusters........and also from personal experience, tomatoe juice works great.
Give your cat a bath with tomato juice. Gets oder off of animals and I think humans also.

But your situation calls for vet help because of the eyes. Or call the vet and ask his advise. He may be able to help you over the phone. He'd probably prefer it that way anyway because of the oder.

You could try flushing the eye's with warm water. I'm just guessing here of course. Vet may be able to tell you what to use.

Good Luck .............. Plug your nose!
not sure about the eyes but bath in tomato juice. Might have to call a vet hot-line to ask about the eyes ... or one of the snappy vet techs here will know. Good luck
well as hard as it might be, it is still best with tomatos. Cats aren't as easy to deal with as dogs are when this happens but it will get rid of the smell.

I sent hubby to the store to buy some and guess what? It got rid of every trace of skunk smell. Not long after that, my brother's dog got sprayed by a skunk. I told him about Febreze and he sprayed his dog with it. It got rid of the entire smell. Now, I tell everyone about this great remedy. It really does work. There is a spray you can get at the pet store that works well too, but i just sware by Febreze. Good luck! How do i get rid of skunk smell?

How to git rid of skunk smell from a dog?

skunk spray in dog's mouth?how do i get rid of it?How to git rid of skunk smell from a dog?
For many years, I had a white German Shepherd dog who hated skunks and was determined to get back at them.... someday... for all of the times that he was sprayed.

I tried the tomato bath route... it wasn't terribly effective and all it did was turn him pink.

Then we started taking him to the vet for ';skunk baths.'; The vet did an okay job, but not great, and I think that taking him to the vet just got him more incensed that he was going to get that doggone skunk!

Next, we took him to a professional dog groomer and he came back looking and smelling great! No skunk odor... until his next encounter!

Finally, after a nasty divorce between the couple who owned the grooming place, their courtroom battle cost so much, that they no longer had the finances to keep the grooming business.

    I went in to talk to them, desperate to find another place or way to be able to keep a nice smelling dog after he was ';skunked.';

Since the groomers were permanently leaving the business, he told me not to bother to pay to go to another professional, and... honestly told me their professional secret... the product that they used to cleanse the dogs after their skunk attacks.

He wasn't kidding and it has since been confirmed by other dog groomers and handlers. What was their secret product? Honestly... Messengil, a feminine product available in any large drug store. It comes in several varieties of scents but any flowery scent seems to do the trick.

One word of caution... after one embarassing trip to the drug store... After a long hike with our second white German Shepherd who didn't hate skunks but liked to go up and poke them in the butt with her nose, and therefore got sprayed, we needed to get the product to de-skunk her.

We stopped at the pharmacy and I stayed outside with her while my husband went inside to buy it. He came back out with his face the brightest scarlet that I have ever seen.

After getting past the muttering and a couple of under the breath curses, he finally told me what had transpired.

After he entered the drug store, he was unsure where to find the product, so he went over to a clerk at the counter. When he asked where the Messengil was located in the store, the clerk looked at him funny.

He immediately saw a need to explain that he wasn't buying it for himself.

    ';Oh, it's not for me. It's for my dog!';

Needless to say, I purchased the products in the future! How to git rid of skunk smell from a dog?
    wash dog in tomato bath
Here is the secret recipe that WORKS. Mix the following:

1 quart 3 percent hydrogen peroxide

1/4 cup baking soda (sodium bicarbonate)

1 teaspoon liquid soap or dish detergent

Mix these together and bathe (';shampoo'; in or rub down) the spray victim thoroughly.

Be sure to use this mixture immediately after it is created, as it is unstable.

Rinse with tap water afterward, and repeat if necessary.

For spray in the eyes, flush with water as soon as possible.

If you can't go to all of the trouble of buying hydrogen peroxide at your local drug store, then a 2% vinegar solution will help a bit. But please, don't bother with the old tomato juice tactic unless you want to smell like skunk + tomato.
fill up a tub w/ tomato sauce outside and put him in.
I really don't envy you. I am not sure if anything much will get rid of it, but if it is too much to cope with, you could give the dog a trim, getting rid of most of the surface hair and bath it in really strong shampoo. Ask the vet, maybe there is some kind of mouth spray to combat it..... Good luck!!
Tomato juice bath and the shampoo.
try feeding him or her a peppermint. That may work ?????
Get you pup in a bath of tomatoe juice!

    Works great...
Feed the dog tomatoes. I don't think he'll eat them, add some pasta. The acidity should take care of the smell.
give him a bath in tomato juice
I would do what Frustrated C would do ,it was a good story , still LOL
Take the dog to a vet or dog grooming place but it will cost you some money.Sorry I don't have any other ideas.Good Luck!!!
I doubt the skunk ONLY hit his mouth. I would wash the dog in TOMATO JUICE. (you saturate him in it, and let it soak in for about 15 minutes. If on the face, use a toothbrush to apply to to the face, avoiding the eyes. If the eyes are affected, use a saline solution that you might even use on your self if you had an eye problem. They make a pet breath spray that I would definitely try if a problem in the mouth.

    Good Luck
Our vet has a product that flat out works. Not a home remedy. It has to do with breaking down the chemicals and oils but I don't remember what it's called. Its a little bottle of spray or shampoo with purple writing and a picture of a skunk also in purple I think and it smeels pretty good. I had to make an emergency run to a groomer friend who got a skunked dog. Hope you can find it

How can i kill a skunk or keep it from eating my ducks?

recently, a skunk has been eating my ducks. i havn't seen it, but i know it has been there because i can smell it, and my brother recognized the tracks (as strange as that sounds. -.-';). is there a way that i can kill it or at least keep it away from my ducks and other small animals? How can i kill a skunk or keep it from eating my ducks?
While you're at it, you should really kill all predatory animals, too (even though skunks are NOT predatory and not responsible for your ducks' death).

By your logic, a skunk deserves to die for the purely hypothetical and unfounded assumption that it's eating your... ducks. Skunks do not eat ducks. They eat insects. You smell a skunk and see dead animals. The two MUST be connected, right? How can i kill a skunk or keep it from eating my ducks?
Skunks don't eat ducks, it may be eating the eggs, but won't eat them after they hatch or are grown. A skunk may be in the area, which is why you can smell it and see it's tracks, but it is something else eating your ducks.

It could be a wide variety of things eating the ducks, from coyotes, to raccoons, to weasels, to minks. It really depends on what it is that is eating them as to how you would get ride of it. You could always get a dog to stay with and protects the ducks at night to make sure they stay safe. You can also get a live trap and try and get whatever is killing them.
Call the vet or the zoo. They'll have a way to set a trap.
Are your ducks loose? You should call animal control and tell them about your problem. I'm sure they'll try to catch it.

How much does a pet skunk usually cost?

I'm interested in buying a pet skunk and have searched everywhere and I cannot find the price of a skunk. How much does a pet skunk usually cost?
    ~blinky,

Owning wild animals is just wrong! Not to mention illegal in most places. Prices will probably be very high, ranging from 500$-2,000$ if you live in the U.S. But that's not the price of everything you'll need for it, you'll need tons of other stuff that pets don't even need. In all, it'll cost around 3-5,000 dollars for a skunk. It's best you get a ferret, as they are similar to skunks in a way, yet much easier to care for, not to mention cheaper. ;) Hope this helps,

Well, it just that I must of been in a bad mood when I wrote that since now that I read it, it sounds offensive in a way, but I still disagree. Wild animals should live where they are born: in the wild. However, if the animal is injured %26amp; can't take care of itself, then I think it's okay to own one.

Thats illegal... you have to be over the age of thirty and you have to get a permit. ( my parents own a wild animal rehab center and they have permits for a white tiger, alligators, an eagle and koala)
That's probably because in most places it's illegal to keep wild animals as pets.
I'd say somewhere between now and the fifth. Time is a relative theory.

How do you get a skunk out of a cage without killing it?

My father lives in a rural area and caught a skunk in a metal trap that resembles a cage. He called me to ask if I had any suggestions on how he could move the cage without getting sprayed. I told him just to shoot the skunk but he would prefer not to do that if at all possible. Anybody have any suggestions... preferably ones backed with experience? How do you get a skunk out of a cage without killing it?
The common Have-a-heart traps have two doors, if he's using one of those. It's probably hard for Mrs. Skunk to turn around once inside. He should choose to open the door at the skunk's front end, of course.

He might buy a cheap plastic tarp and work behind the plastic, placing it over the trap and just exposing enough of the front of the trap to open it or poking a stick or two through a small hole in the tarp to open the door if the tarp is clear and he can see through it. It also might be easier to open the door and have it stay open if he first turns the trap gently on its side, so gravity won't close the door. Some of this might be do-able with a couple of longish sticks.

Don't blame me if none of this works! How do you get a skunk out of a cage without killing it?
if the cage is small enough that it CANT lift its tail that's good because it can only spray if it can raise its tail.As an exterminator I have caught 100's of coons and skunks over the last 25 years and NEVER been sprayed once or had an animal turn on me.Straighten out a 24 inch piece of coat hanger, make a small hook on each end approx 1/4 inch, bend the coat hanger into an arch, hook one end to the back off the cage and then the other hook onto the cage door this should lift the cage door for the skunk to escape just make sure to stand back for safety sake they always (usually) bolts straight out of the cage and to the bush.
I suggest you suit-up with something water repellent like a raincoat, gloves etc that can be thrown away. Skunks are sensitive creatures so move very slowly towards the cage so as not to startle the little critter. When you are close enough to open the latch with a stick, do so and let it run as you run in the opposite direction. If you should be sprayed, just think of it as the skunk thanking you by marking you as its territory.
If you shoot the skunk it WILL spray. The only way I know of to get a skunk out of a trap with out killing it is to man up and go open it. Thats about a 50% chance of being sprayed. The only way to get a skunk out with out spraying is pretty damn inhumane, but here it is. Take a stick lift the trap and drop it into water all at once so that it is totally submerged.

If he does the right thing I here tomato soup baths help the smell.
One good thing about Hav-A-Hart traps is that, unless it is an oversized trap, the skunk cannot raise its tail to spray. Just open the end that the skunk is facing. The skunk will be more interested in getting away than in stopping to spray you. One benefit -- the skunk will have taken care of any human odor that was on the trap.

Of course, if it was a Tomahawk trap, you're on your own.
If you shoot it it will spray. If you are able to get it out alive it will still spray and you will catch it again and have the same problem. I have caught many skunks in Haifa hearts. This is what has worked for me almost all the time ( it sounds cruel so all you peta people stop reading now). I throw a blanket over the cage, Then fill a 55 gal drum with water. In she goes the whole cage wait 15 minutes and your problem solved. Not many can hold their breath this long.
Can you throw a blanket over the cage so the skunk cannot see you approaching then carefully open the cage door coming from the back of the cage where the skunk cannot see you. Why would you want to shoot the poor thing..pretty cruel if you ask me.
try putting a blanket over it so the animal can't see you. It's fear is that it's feeling and the only way it knows how to make you leave it alone is to spray you. So put a blanket over the cage it works for tray cats why not a skunk.
if you put some peanut butter on a cracker and you set it by the cage the skunk will come out after you open the cage.
Open the cage and run away.

  • What is the difference between ';skunk'; and ';draw';?

I'm assuming your talking about a game. A ';Skunk'; is when you beat someone without them getting a point; i.e. they ';stink'; at playing the game. A draw is when nobody wins, something like a stalemate in Chess or when your playing black jack and both the dealer and the person gets the same cards. What is the difference between ';skunk'; and ';draw';?

On the show Mythbusters they tried all sorts of remedies.

In the end it was either tomato juice or their own mix:

How to Remove a Skunk Smell

Skunk smells can be very pungent and long lasting if not removed completely and as quickly as possible. Due to the chemical nature of the skunk odor there are certain processes that should be used to eliminate a skunk smell from a pet, a person, or a home. Read on to learn how to remove a skunk smell.

    Skunk Odor

    Step 1

Separate the odor affected item from your home. If a pet has a skunk smell move the pet outside, if a piece of furniture has been sprayed move it outdoors, and if a room in your house has been sprayed then close all interior doors and open exterior windows.

    Step 2

Wash the skunk smelling item. Use a warm water, soap based baking soda mixture to clean the pet or person. Completely wet the subject, scrub gently and rinse with clean warm water. Repeat the wash if necessary for high skunk odors.

    Step 3

Dry and air the skunk odor affected item. Place any physical item out of your house and allow it to air dry for at least three hours after you have washed the item. For interior smells leave the windows open overnight with a fan to circulate and remove the skunk odor.
Not much you can but open up the windows and air the house out and wash down everything with solutions of hydrogen peroxide and white vinegar until the smell eventually goes away.

Go on Google and ask this question, not here.
First Lysol type odor neutralizing sprays, then Incense sticks, for the floor try vinegar.
    idk, let it air out?

A question for a vetrinarian, can I give ampicillan to a skunk?

I don't know specifically about skunks because I never treated one with an antibiotic, but ampicillin is not usually harmful to ferrets, a mustelid that I do know about. Individual allergic reactions are not uncommon with penicillin-type antibiotics--and that includes your own exposure. You do want to be sure your problem is diagnosed appropriately, and there are better medications available. (In short, I'm recommending that you consult your veterinarian first!) Usual dose is 5-30 mg per kg of body weight, given twice daily. That's 2-13 mg per lb. More is not better. Good luck. Skunks are beautiful and fascinating pets, and if it weren't for the rabies issue, more people would probably enjoy them.A question for a vetrinarian, can I give ampicillan to a skunk?
    yes it will hurt

Is it true that a skunk has to be standing up to spray?

I've heard that if you hold a skunk by the tail they cannot spray because they need their legs to help them spray. Is it true that a skunk has to be standing up to spray?
Yeah you try that and you'll be just like me when I tried it.

Evidently the sunk I grabbed, when I was a kid, had not read the book about him not being able to spray when someone was holding him by his tail.

Got me and my dog both: Mom made us both stay outside %26amp; sleep outside for a week until the smell started going away.

Also that deal about pulling his tail between his legs will stop him from spraying because he doesn't like the smell.

One problem with that. Getting his tail between his legs before he opens fire.

That was another week Lady and I had to stay outside and sleep outside.

    .

And my horse didn't like it either: Couldn't get close to him without him trying to kick me until the smell wore off.

    .

    Will never forget the:

    Tomato juice baths

    Lemon juice baths:

    Vinegar baths:

    Hydrogen Peroxide baths

    Clorox baths:

To get the smell off us either:

So grab one but when you do remember I told you so:

How do you get rid of the smell if your dog has been sprayed by a skunk?

I've tried everything I can think of. Tomato juice; someone suggested peroxide and baking soda. Nothing I've tried has worked. I even sprayed her with doggie perfume, and she still smells like skunk. How do you get rid of the smell if your dog has been sprayed by a skunk?
My dog is one of those that is always getting himself messed up with those smelly things too...I've used a couple different things...I tried the tomato juice thing and that lasted about a day and then he smelled again...So I was told to use Vinegar...The dark works better than the clear...It'll make him smell pickled afterwards but anything is better than skunk...Another thing you can use and this is going to sound VERY strange, but use a Douche...It doesn't have to be a scented one, or anything like that, but give your dog a bath in that and that'll work like a charm too...Either one of those will work...How do you get rid of the smell if your dog has been sprayed by a skunk?
tomato juice helps dull the smell but doesn't completely get rid of it. I agree with the girl who said Nature's Miracle. They do make products for skunk smell. I have never used it but their other products are terrific. You can buy it at Petsmart or Petco
mix water, baking soda, white vinegar and dawn dish liquid

we had a skunk pee under our trailer and game commission gave me that... took a couple times of washing but it worked
    wash with vinegar
hi our dog got sprayed about a week ago we tried the tomatoe juice and it helped some but then i found another concoction if you will it was one small bottle of peroxide one half cup of baking soda and abot a half a cup of dish soap. we just kept rubbing it in and then we let it set for about five minutes and it worked like a charm also worked on clothes he had rubbed on. hope it works for you.
Tomato juice will help temporarily. Eventually it will will wear off.
    tomato soup
Nature's Miracle makes a product to get rid of skunk smell. I have never needed to try it, but their other products work so well, that one probably does too. I could not live without Nature's Miracle to get rid of pet urine odor and stains. It really does work like a miracle. I ordered a very expensive area rug from a mail order company and when it arrived, it smelled like cat pee. I don't know if it really was cat pee or if it was just some chemical in the rug, but I sprayed it down with the Nature's Miracle and hung it outside to dry and it has no smell at all now. You can buy it at Pet Smart or on their website...Good luck.
Try Ozium air freshener. Buy it at Walgreens
tons of tomato juice, its the only thing that works
Try a douche. I know. It might sound weird but that's what they suggested on the radio and the person said it worked really great.
Deskunking recipe given to us by our obedience trainer:

    1 quart 3% Hydrogen Peroxide

    1/4 cup Baking Soda

    1 quart water

2 tsp. Palmolive liquid or Softsoap or Ivory liquid (DO NOT use DAWN as it is so efficient it breaks down the hydrogen peroxide and it can't work effectively)

Wet the dog's coat first with slightly warm water. Then sponge the mixture onto the coat and suds it in well. Leave on for at least 5 minutes. Rinse with warm water. You may have to reapply. KEEP OUT OF DOG'S EYES, AS THIS STINGS!

Also, DO NOT STORE THIS MIXTURE, AS IT WILL EXPLODE! Pour it down your drain when finished with it.

Good luck with deskunking! This worked great on a stray we took in recently that had been sprayed right before we got her.
mud. lots of mud. just water and dirt. coat your dog heavily and it does work. Lots of mud. leave it on til it dries. wash then do it again till the smell goes away

takes several tries, but it works.

A few months ago, some people in Georgia claimed to find a dead Skunk Ape (Bigfoot in the news) and took a picture of it in their freezer. They said DNA testing was being done. I haven't heard of anything since then.

Can you still get skunk smell even if not directly sprayed?

if a skunk sprayed into our bedroom window, is it possible that we will smell like this as well? Can you still get skunk smell even if not directly sprayed?
Yes the spray is exactly that tiny amounts of air-borne ';scent'; that will attach to anything they come in contact with. If the scent drifts through the window and attachs to you, then you will smell. I've heard washing with tomato juice will remove the smellCan you still get skunk smell even if not directly sprayed?
I wouldnt say it's possible..i would say it's 99.999999% probable..thier stench can be smelt 2 blocks away..if sprayed directly in a window..I hear replacing flooring(if carpet or linolium), any clothes hanging in the closet etcetera..but I think maybe you are talking it sprayed outside by the window and not directly in the window..
Hahaha, oh yes, it is totally possible. I know someone who had a skunk spray under their house and he stunk terribly of it for a couple of weeks.
Yes, it's possible. Tomato juice baths!!!

What smell is a skunk's spray comparable to?

Strange question I know - but we don't have skunks in Australia and I have heard that their spray is most debilitating.

Is there any scent that it compares to?What smell is a skunk's spray comparable to?
A fresh direct spray is the most vile smell you have ever smelt. It burns the nostrils, makes you eyes water and you gag and heave. The smell will last strong for days and days. Incense, deodorizers and anything you think of will not erase it. It is at the same time burnt rotten something with an acrid acidy burn the nostril pain. I can not think of anything to compare it to, what is the grossest thing you have ever smelled. It lingers and lingers. I picked up my son and he was afraid a girl would call and he would smell like skunk just from getting in the car with me. A cashier at a register one over from me said 'do you smell skunk' This was after showering and fresh clothes the following day. I was not sprayed, my dog was and got in the house and rubbed all over the couch in a mad frenzy in a matter of seconds. It is brutal and unexplainable. The smell of a dead one on the side of the road has an extremely bad smell that will choke you, but fresh and direct is indescribable. The smell went through the entire house waking up sleeping family members that thought one actually was in the house. WOW.What smell is a skunk's spray comparable to?
i got sprayed by a skunk the night before my senior prom, so from personal experience, i can say that the smell really is really not that 'debilitating'...and it goes away pretty easily (despite what people say about it never going away). Although i cant really think of a way to describe the smell....its definitely obvious when you've been sprayed tho!
Good Ole' Skunk Weed.....the better stuff! ;)
    Extremely, EXTREMELY potent stinky WEED. Put's the ';skunk'; in ';Skunk weed.';
Very close up, it smells as strongly chemical as super glue. Diluted, it is a very strong musk odor, like a ferret or polecat. I've heard that you don't have ferrets there either so that probably doesn't help much. They are in the family Mustilade.
    A burning tire.
    A male ferret (polecat).
I really don't think there is anything comparable, but it is kind of like the smell of a hair perm with a burnt plastic smell thrown in.
    Starbucks Coffee

I love it but it really does have a skunky odor when you're at the shop.

How do you get skunk smell out of a car?

A skunk crawled up in my car and I didn't know about it, it ended up coming out while I was driving... But all too late, now the inside of my car smells like a skunk! It is horrible, any suggestions on how to get the smell out of my car... PLEASE HELP!!!!!!How do you get skunk smell out of a car?
Boy oh boy. Skunks would be extinct if they actually did that as often as people say.

First have a shower.(Make sure to do the hair too) Next, put on some freshly washed clothes after using the BO stick for the pits. Also clean out the old beer bottles, cans, old pizza, peperoni, fried chicken and other crap and puke. Then drop a bottle of Febreze in it and keep the windows closed for a couple of hours(overnight is good)

Should be better. That or burn the car.How do you get skunk smell out of a car?
I ran over a skunk years ago, and the car had a rust hole in the floor board. I could not get home fast enough. GAWD! I opened the doors and left the car sit for a few hours, then took it through a car wash that sprays under the car. The smell went away in a few days.
You are probably going to have to replace the carpet and everything it sprayed. Really though? A skunk in your car? I think they make things to get the skunk smell off stuff though. Didnt you watch the episode of myth busters?
it will go away in a few weeks

  • How can I keep from not smeling like a skunk while washing my skunk sprayed dog?

My dog got sprayed by a skunk last night so I had to leave him outside. I feel bad that he has to sit out there and I want to get him scrubbed off. The only thing is I don't want to smell like a skunk for days afterwards because of it. How can I keep this from happening? Will wearing dish gloves work? Also, will Dawn dishwashing liquid help get the smell off of him? I ask because I have been told the skunk smell is oil based. Thanks in advance! How can I keep from not smeling like a skunk while washing my skunk sprayed dog?
    Oh you poor, poor thing!

    And poor furry child!

Please DON'T use any household detergents or even your personal shampoo, as they are very harmful for the skin of a dog, which is very different from ours. If you do, he can end up with weeping sores, and eczma which would be terrible.

Just use normal dog shampoo %26amp; conditioner from the supermarket, and maybe invest in a ';dog deodorant'; spray as well.....

good luck, and give a hug to your poor ';stinky pup'; (when he is cleaned up of course... HA!)How can I keep from not smeling like a skunk while washing my skunk sprayed dog?
Rub Mentholatum under your nose. Also works great for hiding the smell of decomposed bodies.
Tomato juice is the best way to get rid of skunk smell from what my friend who had a dog who ';played'; with a skunk. You can use gloves and that should prevent you from getting any of the smell on you, but if you do, then using tomato juice will get it off of you as well. There is also another way that doesn't use tomato juice, but you'll want to be careful around your dogs eyes with it. It is:

    1 quart 3% Hydrogen Peroxide

    1/4 cup Baking Soda

    1 teaspoon liquid soap

Mix in a bucket (it will fizz).

Soak your dog's fur, but be careful not to get any in his eyes.

Use a sponge to clean off his head and around his eyes.

Knead solution into the fur and be sure to get every part of him with it.

    Rinse thoroughly.
I had 5 skunks under my house and around the house spray one night while my girls and I were in the house.

Bathe the dog in tomato juice, if he licks it, let him, it will help get it out of his system faster.

It's not a cure, the odor will still linger for some time.

Sunshine is the best odor fighter, worked on our clothes and furniture.

To prevent the dog from provoking the skunk is like asking him to change his personality.

He is trying to keep the skunk away from you and the skunk has his own agenda and a bad attitude as well.

Skunks just do not care if you do not like their smell, you either move or put up with it.
call ur bf.. n ask him t do wht ur doin... SAVED? !! ;)
Any gloves should work fine. Be sure to wear a shirt that you aren't planning to keep. Once you're done cleaning the dog, throw away the shirt and the gloves.
skunk smell is an oil , dawn dishwashing liquid is great, but dont use water, when you use water it will spread all over the dog, Use full strenghth, be careful not to get in his eyes. You can also use vineagar. It cleans everything. If he got sprayed in the face ask vets around your area for something to put in his mouth to kill the smell. Good luck
The best way to get the skunk smell off of your dog is to wash him first with Tomato Sauce. I know it sounds really wierd, but it does work. My dog got sprayed and thats what I was told to do. I washed him first with the tomato sauce (it took almost 4 big cans!) and then I washed him again with his regular shampoo to get the tomato sauce smell off of him. Use gloves so that you don't get the smell on your hands!
I have heard that a good dousing of all involved with Listerine will cut the ';odor oil';. good Luck!
well, i used to have that problem. have you tried using tomato sauce? i know that it sounds weird, but it works. somehow it absorbs the smell. i hope it works.
Use tomatoe juice the acid in the juice will absorb the skunk smell and if you got sprayed you will have to burn your clothes or throw them away they cannot be saved.
you can use vinegar and also tomato paste. They both get rid of the skunk smell. Well, usually they do. In most cases. You can also wait a few days then bathe your dog like you normally would and the smell will be reduced.

Outside house--on bare wood, concrete, soil: Get chlorinated lime water at drug store, or mix 1 cup agricultural lime in 1 gallon chlorine bleach and put on areas. BE VERY CAREFUL TO FOLLOW DIRECTIONS - don't get on skin, clothing, etc as it will burn (is a caustic solution), and will also burn grass or other vegetation.

According to the Author of Talking Dirty with the Queen of Clean, Linda Cobb, a product called ODORZOUT is a natural product that stops most odors (skunk, urine, mold, mildew, smoke, foot odor, paint, etc.). It is safe for use around pets and children. Please see related link: http://www.smartpakcanine.com/ProductCla鈥?/a>

I don't think a gate will work. Try a cage. How tall should my gate be for a pet skunk?
I have a skunk and I had to keep her from going down stairs. I just got a regular baby gate and made sure she couldn't get around the sides and she couldn't climb it, like a honey-comb fence type. Try to get one with vertical bars close together. You can climb over it or just open it. Its real nice.
i think that your right it would be big enough but just hope that the skunk doesn't spray. and another thing if your going to keep it in the house put it in a cage, but if your going to keep it running wild in your backyard just fence it up and put a little sheltered area for it.
It won't work try a cage instead

    tomato juice

Be Blessed!Did any of the advice you received with the skunk spell work and how did you get rid of them...help me please?
Do you mean ';skunk SMELL';? Use tomato juice.
I really know this one! Hydrogen peroxide mixed with baking soda and a couple drops of DAWN or orange oil. I've used this on my dog several times and it really works.
We have 3 dogs and live in the country, at least one of them get sprayed once a year. We've used Krud Kutter everytime and cuts the oils in the spray and a normal wash cleans the dogs right up. I figured if I can spray it on my skin, its safe for the dogs fur.

You can pick it up at HomeDepot

ThanksHow do you get reed of the smell of skunk?
The1st time my dog got sprayed, we tried the tomato juice.

It doesn't work well at all.

I asked my vet the next day and got THE proven skunk remedy which works very well!

    Mix together:

    1 qt. hydrogen peroxide

    1/4 cup baking soda

tsp of liquid soap (like dawn )

Bath your pup with that being careful not to get in the eyes

    then rinse.

For the next month whenever your pup gets wet you will get a whiff of the skunk again (but thats just the way it is)

Good luck. How do you get reed of the smell of skunk?
Bath him in Tomato Juice. Then rinse really well.
tomato juice works, but it leaves your dog smelling like tomatoes.

but if you use dawn dish washing liquid it works because it is fighting the odors.
When I was volunteering on a Search and Rescue team, one of the dogs got sprayed during a woodland training session. Two days later we met up for training again and you couldn't smell it at all. I asked the handler what he used, and he said he diluted a cup of bleach in a bathtub full of water and washed him with that. Worked amazing, just be sure not to get it in their eyes.

    Also know a lot of people swear by the commercial skunk odor remover, and a baking soda/ hydrogen peroxide mixture that you can find all over the internet by searching for ';skunk baking soda recipe.';

Good luck. Tomato juice doesn't work, by the way, but the dog sure enjoys it. ;-)
This is what worked for my dog. Give him a bath with regular shampoo and then poor a bunch of vinegar on him. Let it sit for a few minutes then rinse off and wash with shampoo again and vinegar again. I used white vinegar but my vet told me afterwards that the cider vinegar works better.
A lot of people use tomato juice, I don't like that because it tends to turn your dog red! I have had great success with Scope mouthwash. It really works. All the best;~)
Go to the veterinarian's office and purchase a skunk odor remover product. It is a thick liquid in a squeeze bottle that you rub all over your dogs fur. It will remove most of the odor.

Does anyone know how to get the smell of skunk out of the house?

One of my dogs got sprayed when she went out earlier, when she came in we bathed her and poured several cans on tomato sauce (that was recommended) on her one at a time and rinsed her good. She smells much better but I can't get the smell out of my house. Any idea of what I can do. Opening the house (cold as it is) hasn't helped and the smell is very strong.

Please serious answers only.Does anyone know how to get the smell of skunk out of the house?
The vinegar answers are good but you should get a package of sponges, mix a solution of 50/50 water %26amp; vinegar and soak the sponges in it for an hour. Set out where required on small sheets of plastic or small plates. As they dry the sponge helps to absorb the odour. You can repeat this process by reusing the sponges if required.Does anyone know how to get the smell of skunk out of the house?
i reccemend febreeze or baking soda
Use water mixed with vinegar, with a dash of dish soap.
set out a box of baking soda or corn starch. you could also simmer cloves or vanilla on the stove. spray febreze(spelling).

    good luck.
Try using Frabreeze. Especially where your dog lays the most. She will still smell slightly when she gets wet. Mostly time will help dissipate the smell of skunk.
Put alot of small bowls of vinegar out all over the house. Also use vinegar to clean floors. Vinegar takes the smell out of nearly everything!! Get some cinnamon sticks and put them in a pan with water and boil them. Make sure you don`t burn the pan dry...
Use Febreze, it works very well....

  • My dog ran away and got sprayed by a skunk. What ways can i rid of the stinch?

Be real.My dog ran away and got sprayed by a skunk. What ways can i rid of the stinch?
These tactics WILL NOT work very well:

    Bath in tomato juice

Spray with lemon or orange citrus

Masking agents like perfume or Fabreze

How do you eliminate the odor once you have been sprayed by a skunk? Well first of all, you or your dog should have known the warning signs ahead of time. A skunk will give many clear signals before it sprays. If threatened, it will stamp its front feet, arch its back, and shuffle away. If you don't leave right away, it will turn its posterior toward you, raise the tail, and release the smelly musk, a sulfur-alcohol compound, from special glands near the anus. This spray not only stinks, but burns and can cause temporary blindness if it is sprayed directly into the eyes. Since you didn't take heed and got sprayed, here is how to get rid of the smell:

My dog ran away and got sprayed by a skunk. What ways can i rid of the stinch?
My dog got sprayed by a skunk several years ago, and the

smell can be unbearable. I washed my dog in tomato juice.

It sounds strange, but it's an old remedy. It really works. Do

it about three or four times and the smell will be gone.
Summer's Eve Vinegar douche (several depending on the size of your dog).
Use the recipe listed above using peroxide, baking soda, and detergent. blue dawn dish soap is what i used. They had it on myth busters a few years ago, and like two days later my dog got sprayed, and it really does work!
instead of water use tomato sauce when you wash your dog.that should do the job
Bonzie is correct. Tomato juice is the old remedy that still hangs in there regardless of better methods.

With the peroxide you may get some bleaching of hairs, so don't leave it on long enough to make your dog blonde.

If you still have some skunk scent left, listerine rinse helps.

You can use a generic brand, but it needs the real alcohol, not the alcohol free ones.
Give it a bath in tomato juice.

I beg to differ with Bonzie, my dog got sprayed last week and that is what we used. (we have skunks all over the place where I live, right next to the river, that must be why) But your dog does end up smelling like tomatoes. Try Bonzie mix and see, ya never know, sounds like it might work and smell better than tomatoes.

How much should I ebay a Maplestory iTCG Skunk pet code for?

Im looking to sell 5 unused codes through ebay and Ive seen them go for $50-150 but that was when they were still making that set and since theyre no longer making the itcg set Im thinking the price may have gone up...How much should I ebay a Maplestory iTCG Skunk pet code for?
Someone I know has bought a Blue Husky for $15 dollars just recently. So i'm guessing that the Skunk pet should also go around that price. I don't think anyone would buy the code for $50. It would be lucky if someone does buy it for that amount. Good luck :3How much should I ebay a Maplestory iTCG Skunk pet code for?
Aim high I guess, But I am pretty sure its illegal to do this.

My cat got skunk-sprayed, What is the best way to get the stink out?

Tomato stuff doesn't work, I know. Is the 1/2 c baking soda, water, and dish soap the best way?My cat got skunk-sprayed, What is the best way to get the stink out?
I think you should read this site:

says:For pets that have been sprayed, bathe the animal in a mixture of 1 quart of 3% hydrogen peroxide (from drug store), 1/4 cup of baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) and a teaspoon of liquid detergent. After 5 minutes rinse the animal with water. Repeat if necessary. The mixture must be used after mixing and will not work if it is stored for any length of time. DO NOT STORE IN A CLOSED CONTAINER - it releases oxygen gas so it could break the container. This mixture may bleach the pet's hair. I have heard of one black Labrador retriever that was chocolate colored after this treatment. (Paul Krebaum's Recipe from Chemical %26amp; E ngineering News , October 18, 1993, p. 90).

Some additional tips. Do this outside so the volatile skunk spray does not contaminate your house. To remove residual skunk odor from your clothes and any towels or rags used in this clean up procedure, wash them with one cup of liquid laundry bleach per gallon of water. My cat got skunk-sprayed, What is the best way to get the stink out?
Tomato juice or car fumes(might kill the cat). Or maybe vinegar. Poor kitty.
    Skunk Odor Removal Formula

1 quart 3% Hydrogen Peroxide (found in any drug store)

录 cup Baking Soda (sodium bicarbonate)

1 teaspoon of liquid dish soap (like Dawn or Palmolive, but any similar dish soap will work)

    * This solution must be mixed in an OPEN wide mouth container like a bucket. It will bubble or fizz profusely, so DON'T mix it or store it in a closed container or bottle. This formula will produce pressure in a closed container and cause it to burst. Use it as soon as you make it, because it will lose all effectiveness if it is stored. It must be freshly made in order to work properly.

    * Wet your pet's coat with warm water then thoroughly massage formula into pet's coat. Be sure to massage it in very well so that you neutralize every trace of skunk spray. Be VERY careful not to get any of the formula into his eyes nose or mouth. You may use a wash cloth to CAREFULLY wipe it onto his face. Leave it on for about five minutes then rinse off thoroughly (do not get into eyes). Repeat if necessary.

Why does a skunk smell so bad, and why is the smell so pungent?

A rabbit just hopped by my house, and he obviously has been sprayed by a skunk recently. I wonder how long this poor rabbit has to endure this. Will it go away with time? Why does a skunk smell so bad, and why is the smell so pungent?
The smell is so bad because it is the skunks defense mechanism. Not only does it smell bad, it has irritants in it that would burn your skin and eyes.

If you were to get sprayed, you would want to pick up one of the home remedy's for spray removal off the Internet, but as for the bunny....the smell will fade, it's just gonna take awhile....

    Hope this helps!!!
