Mix together:
1 quart 3% Hydrogen peroxide
one-fourth cup Baking SODA
1 teaspoon liquid detergent
You may need to make two or more times as much as this recipe to cover your entire dog and you may need to do it twice.
***DO NOT GET IN EYES. NOSE, MOUTH OR EARS*** Protect your eyes, too!
Apply mixture to dog's fur using a clean rag or sponge. Let sit on dog for 5 minutes. Rinse thoroughly. Sniff. Repeat if needed.
DO NOT STORE this mixture. It doesn't work after a while and may EXPLODE!!!
To get remaining skunk smell off clothing wash them using 1 cup laundry bleach per gallon of water. What can I do to make skunk smell go away on my dog?
Hi! So this just happened to my dog two nights ago. I did a lot of searching and the one thing I found across the board is this:
Mix one quart of Hydrogen peroxide with one tsp of baking soda and one tsp of Dawn dish soap in an open bowl or bucket.
Scrub the affected area thoroughly. Use rags to get the fur totally cleaned.
Wait five minutes.
Rinse. Use warm water and remove all the chemical solution.
Repeat until affected area is thoroughly rinsed through.
I found different variants of this all around the web, tried it myself, and it seemed to work! Now my dog just has bad skunk breath as it got in his nose, so trying to figure out something for that. Make sure to keep the mix out of her eyes and try to keep her from licking it up as you wash her. I washed my dog with his normal shampoo and conditioner afterwards and now I can't smell it in his fur. Good luck!!
I have a Readers Digest Book called ';Extraordinary uses for ordinary things';. It suggest bathing them in a mixture of 1/2 cup white vinegar, 1/4 cup baking soda and 1 teaspoon liquid soap in 1 quart of 3% hydrogen peroxide. Worth the solution deep into the coat, let it soak in for a few minutes then rinse with water....
The other one they list is just bathing in equal parts water and vinegar. Then repeat using 1 part vinegar to 2 parts water and rinse again.
Hope your pooch smells better soon :-)
Oh you poor dear!
Here's a deskunking bath recipe from the Dog Owner's Home Veterinary Handbook, 4th Edition:
1 quart 3% hydrogen peroxide
1/4 cup baking soda
1 teaspoon liquid dish soap
Use this like you would shampoo and make sure you get it way down into the skin.
Discard any unused formula--it's not stable when it's stored!
Get a large tub and put her in it, do NOT put water in the tub, buy three large cans of tomato juice, use it as soap and bathe her in it, then use doggie shampoo and water to get all of the tomato juice off of her, then she will not smell like skunk anymore!Good Luck!
tomato juice, or look at a pet store like petsmart, or another pet storee, migght have a shampoo for skunky smell.
