What's the best way the get rid of the stink from a skunk?

My dog was sprayed, and bathing her isn't helping. What's the best way the get rid of the stink from a skunk?
Tomato juice or V-8 if you don't have a petsmart near by. There is some pet shampoo specially made for removing skunk and fox odor, but I can't honestly recall the product name. Tomato juice works fairly well. Rub the juice into the fur with just a little dish soap (just a very small amount), and let sit for 5-10 min, and then wash out with pet shampoo and rinse the dog like normal bathing from there out. What's the best way the get rid of the stink from a skunk?
Check with your local pet store or discount store. There are several enzyme based products that work GREAT! You put them on the dog (soak the poor, stinky hound) let it soak in on them for like 5-10 minutes and then rinse it off. If worst comes to worst, call your vet and ask where you can get it; they'll know!

Tomato/V-8 juice works so so. Every time the dog gets wet for about the next 6 months, you will still smell skunk.

The only dog I have had that got sprayed was a white cockapoo; sure couldn't use tomato juice on her, she'd have been pink! :)
MIx this in a plastic pitcher and use it immediately. It foams like mad!

1 pint of hydrogen peroxide (the fist aidstuff, not hair bleach)

1 cup of baking soda

a couple teaspoons of shampoo other safe for humans soap.

Suds it all over her and leave it for a few minutes, then rinse.
i have heard that you could bathe your dog in tomatoe juice that will take the stink away . an old wives tale. dont know if it works
Tomato juice is about the only thing that will remove the scent.....

How do i get rid of a skunk smell in my house?

its been two days and it smells like a skunk sprayed everything in our house. im thinking maybe it got under our house and sprayed something? and now its coming through the vents? How do i get rid of a skunk smell in my house?
try to get your hands on an air purifier, if you can't, I'd suggest febreeze everything, put some carpet powder down, and get the air wick freshmatic, the ones that spray every few mins until the smell is gone. How do i get rid of a skunk smell in my house?
Hi,

I live in Australia and we don't have skunks but there are other hideous smells you can get anyway. The method should be about the same. Keep treating the odours as you encounter them with a good quality product you may be able to buy at a supermarket. Here we have an excellent product called NilOdor and it works very well, but the applications have to be repeated from time to time until it is gone. I had a problem once when a little female cat urinated in the hall of our house and it went into the wood flooring. With the use of the NilOdor it made it bearable but it did need constant re-application for a long time.
looooooooooooooooooooooooool you should always smoke it outside because the smell spreads more than a fag. Erm i suggest you to spray an air refreshner thats the only way or smoke a fag let that take over the smell

How do you get rid of a skunk?

My husband and I have noticed a skunk hanging around our yard for a few nights now. How can we get rid of it? Shooting it is not an option as we live in the city. How do you get rid of a skunk?
Make sure your garbage is not left out for him to smell and eat. YOu can also try bitter sprays but we have not had anything work even with our dogs scenting the yard. You can also hire a exterminator or pest control to remove him from the areaHow do you get rid of a skunk?
They have box traps you can set up, you can trap him, then take him to the woods where he should be.

I thought skunk only spary when scared why is one spraying every night at my home?

Every night about 1 am the unmistakable smell of skunk fills our home whyI thought skunk only spary when scared why is one spraying every night at my home?
We had the same problem. I don't know why it sprays unless it is either marking territory or something else is scaring it, such as cars or city noise.

my dad found where it was under our house and sprayed a large amount of ammonia inside the hole it had made to get under our porch. with in minutes it fled the scene. He shot it, but also got in trouble shortly thereafter for firing a rifle in city limits so I don't recommend that part. after the skunk flees from the ammonia just patch the hole with bricks and dirt and scatter some more ammonia along the foundation of your house. I thought skunk only spary when scared why is one spraying every night at my home?
Skunks also mark their territory by spraying. Skunks also smell horrible on their own without spraying. Don't leave food outside for the skunk to eat, including pet food. If you live in a house with a crawl space, the skunk may be living under there. They can be removed by using a humane trap and taken away from your house to be released at another location. Animal control will answer your questions if you call them.
if you have a compost pile never put fresh vegetables in it they attract skunks.

buy some moth flakes and sprinkle them around the outside edge of your property.skunks shy away from moth flakes.

Wild animal Poop?

Ok so I have 2 labs and neither of them has ever eaten poop or rolled in it before. I am pretty sure that we have a family of some kind of rodents living under our deck. The dogs sniff away at the deck in certain areas everytime they go outside. The problem is our deck is completely blocked off every where except near our AC unit which is in the corner and it is a very small gap. Today, I noticed my male rolling around in something very black and I smelled it. It was definetly poo but not typical doggy doo smell. The turds were real small (quarter size) and there were a lot of seeds in it. I live in Illinois so it could be Skunks (no smell yet), raccoons, possoms, or rabbits. Anyone have a clue on what it could be? Or have any ideas to get these guys out without tearing boards out of my deck?

he contacted me and the skunk is gone.
Skunks also spray to mark territory or fend off predators because it is the only defense mechanism they have. We trap just about one a year they go after our chickens and like to spray everywhere so no other animal will muck around with there turf.
maybe its marking its territory?? that's wat most animals do
Its afraid of the dark. HAHAH

If a skunk moves into a home, how does one get it back out?

I was asked this a few days ago; if a skunk moves into a home, how does one get it back out? Who can tell me how?If a skunk moves into a home, how does one get it back out?
they do not like moth balls. also, chocolate and whole sunflower seeds are toxic to them. bwahahahaha!

seriously, the moth balls are a good deterrent! If a skunk moves into a home, how does one get it back out?
try putting leaves of lettuce or small pieces of carrot down making a path outside. Another way, risky, stand outside with the door open and call the skink using a calm voice. That actually worked for someone I used to know
Have them call the animal control to get it out
Put on a Gas mask and grab a BIG stick ^^

  • How do you get rid of a skunk that has taken up residence under a wooden porch. City says we can't kill it.

The whole house is stinking. City ordinances say no kill, no humane trapping of wild animals in the city limits! We tried a bug bomb to make it smell different under there, but it won't go away. The skunk is bedded down. Once we get rid of the skunk, how do we get the terrible smell out of the house? All of the paint, carpets and curtains are new. Heeeeeelp!!How do you get rid of a skunk that has taken up residence under a wooden porch. City says we can't kill it.
    I found this online-

Skunk removal isn鈥檛 hard. The trick is to do most of the work while the skunk is out foraging so you don鈥檛 risk getting sprayed. Sprinkle a light layer of flour, chalk, or other white powder around it鈥檚 den and wait until nightfall. After dark [because skunks are nocturnal ;)], return and look for tracks leading away to indicate that the skunk has left in search of food and then get to work sealing up all of the entrances [how to build the barrier is on the site]. If you do this right the skunk will not be able to get back in. If he does, wait until the next evening and try again.

they have a bit on traps but you said the city won't let you...if this doesn't work you may have to hire someone. Good Luck!!How do you get rid of a skunk that has taken up residence under a wooden porch. City says we can't kill it.
Your best bet will be to hire someone to take care of the problem. Pest control for instance. Check your phone book. That person should have all of the needed knowledge and equipment to remove the animal. There are some do it yourself methods such as mothballs and things like that but they are not guaranteed to work.

As for the smell, as long as the skunk has not directly sprayed the inside of your house then the odor should go away. It will take a while. Once, our dogs trapped a skunk on our front porch. The dogs thought is was the best game they had ever played. The skunk and the humans were not too happy about it though. The house stunk pretty badly for a few days but we opened the place up and aired it out.
GET A VARMINT TRAPPER to get the skunk out and hopefully soon as they are about to have their litter at this time or early May. If the city impedes you in this process, bring them to task. you pay taxes for your house and they have no right to force you to live with one under your house. Get a lawyer and submit a bill to the city for clean up because of their ridiculous law of no humane trapping
Did you contact your local wildlife rescue or animal control? I'm sure they can help or point you in the right direction.

How do I get the smell of Skunk out of my house? It sprayed in my crawl space!!?

The whole house smells of skunk. My clothes smell, everything smells. How do I get rid of it?How do I get the smell of Skunk out of my house? It sprayed in my crawl space!!?
honestly, I really don't think that there is much you can do. burn a lot of candles. Vinigar wash whatever you can. I know that if for instance, you dog or cat gets sprayed with skunk... you're supposed to give them a tomato bath because the acid in the tomato kills the stink. I'm sorry to hear about your house. I think you're just going to have to wait it out. *AmandaHow do I get the smell of Skunk out of my house? It sprayed in my crawl space!!?
I feel your pain . . . thank goodness we really don't have skunks here in Alaska, but i cleaned my dogs a lot growing up in WI.

I'd be tempted to try the link I found:

    http://www.maranna.org/

    Good Luck.
Tomato juice sorta neutralizes the spray on dogs.

Suppose it would work on other surfaces IF you can find/get to them...

Watch out, especially if the skunk is aggressive,

as skunks have a good possibility of being rabies carriers.

Other than the animal control folks doing their job,

dispensing of lead poisoning might be your best bet.
Call animal control to remove the little guy... when we lived on our farm my dh decided to shoot one in the barn... yea, not such a good idea.. you could smell our house for miles!

For the smell ON things try this:

Hydrogen peroxide mixed with baking soda and a couple drops of DAWN or orange oil.

For the smell in the air: Oust spray will help...

but skunk smell just has to dissipate on its own... Also.. did you know their droppings smell? so you may need to get down and have that cleaned up as well..

    sorry! (Yuck!!)
Buy new clothes and move !

I don't think there is a good answer for that one, but plenty of fresh air, baking soda, scent sprays, scented candles may help. Be sure to permanently remove the skunk first.
Before you worry about the smell, I would worry about the skunk. I would make sure that the skunk is out of the crawl space and then I would make sure to place something over the opening so the skunk or any other critters can't get back in. Then I would go to the Mythbusters site and see if you can locate what they used to remove skunk smell! It worked better than store bought products and tomato juice! It was made with simple products like baking soda and some other stuff...and it would more than likely be able to be sprayed on the clothing and other fabrics to remove the smell. Good luck I hope this helps!
