How do you get the skunk smell off of a dog?

Help I tried tomato juice and soaps. Is there any sure fire way to get the smell to go away? How do you get the skunk smell off of a dog?
The best stuff I ever used was an enzyme product called Nature's Miracle that I bought from the pet store. You put it on the dog, leave it on for the required amount of time and rinse it away. And the smell is gone! It does not return every time the dog gets wet.

Tomato juice is largely ineffective and not a good idea if you have a light colored dog; think pink here..... Call your local pet store, I bet they have this stuff or something similar in stock all the time. And some Vet offices carry it also!

I am also concerned about skin and eye irritation of these home brew remedies that circulate. Go the safe for your pet way.How do you get the skunk smell off of a dog?
Three cheers for hockeylo above! That's the answer.....the hydrogen perioxide, baking soda and a bit of soap. Apply, rub in for awhile and then rinse out and reapply. Third time shampoo the dog but you'll need a conditioner because the hydrogen perioxide does a number on their hair/coat. If you have OdoBan from Sam's, that helps as well.

Plan on weekly baths for awhile because no matter how careful you are, not all the stink will come out. If your dog gets wet, there's the smell again. So Rover will be extra clean for awhile.

Tomato juice, vinegar, just baking soda, soy sauce just don't work. There are products on the market for skunk scent removal.......it's an enzymatic cleaner. If your pups are going to make a habit of playing with the black and white kitty, you might want to visit a pet store and pick up a big bottle of the skunk remover as well as keep the peroxide and baking soda in the dog supply closet. (I've got 6 bottle in reserve at all times)
We have 2 small dogs; one Shitzu and one Lhasa Alhpso. they get tangled with the skunks about twice a year. We keep 4 1/2 gallon cans of tomato juice (64 ounce cans) in the cupboard for the occasion.

You first put the dog into the dry tub and soak the dog with the tomato juice first. use lots and lots of tomato juice. no water yet.

after you have totally gotten the skunk smell all over yourself and the dog totally saturated with the tomato juice, then you rinse the dog off with warm water and then bath t he dog normally using dog shampoo. this method has been working great for us now for several years.

The trick is to use lots of tomato juice and only tomato juice no water until you're ready to rinse. For our little dogs 2 cans (1 gallon) is enough for one dog.

We usually shampoo the dogs twice to get all of the tomato juice off of them.

Tomato juice does not work as you are finding out. The only thing you have now is a dog that smells like a skunk that took a tomato juice bath. Below is another site that will tell you how to get the smell off of your dog.
My dog was dumb enough to do it 3 times...Here's the stuff that works great every time. For pets that have been sprayed, bathe the animal in a mixture of 1 quart of 3% hydrogen peroxide (from drug store), 1/4 cup of baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) and a teaspoon of liquid detergent. (Dawn works great) Apply the mixture, studs him up, and leave it on there for at least five minutes. Then rinse, wash with normal dog shampoo, rinse again. I have found that the face is really hard to get, so I rubbed a dryer sheet on him, and he smelled much better. Hope this helps!
Give Dirty %26amp; Hairy dog shampoo a try. This shampoo is all natural and designed specifically for deep cleansing without drying the skin. It also contain an essential oil that repels tick and flee. This product is good for dogs that run through the mud, frolic in ditches, and root through debris

I tried the tomato juice without success. The pet store sell shampoo for sunk spray on animals and it worked for me on two different occasions.
We always used tomato juice on our dog, when she came into contact with a skunk. But then again, we had homemade tomato juice. That may be the difference.
