What removes the smell of a skunk?

I've heard that tomatos work but I need a faster way... My dog, Sasha, got sprayed by a skunk and she smells bad. We need a fast way to help her.What removes the smell of a skunk?
A tomoato juice bath is a good beginning.





Most groomers will refuse to take in a dog that has been sprayed simply because once the dog is wet the smell returns, and warm air to dry the dog makes the smell worse.





Try this:





After a tomato juice bath get some liquid Dawn Dish soap. Soap the dog well all over(do not dilute the dawn). Let sit for about five minutes then rinse. Re-wash the dog,then rinse, rinse, rinse. Use warm water.





Towel dry, do not blow dry!





Since the skunk spray is a musk, it will be oily. Dawn is great for removing oil and grease.





I used it on a sprayed dog and about 90% of the smell was gone after he was dry.

Doggroom is right. use a lot of tomato juice. bathe in it if you have it one you.

I used to work for a dog groomer and he said that tomato juice doesn't work we would just bathe them regularly but I read a home remedy that said to put apple cider vinegar in its bath water.
tomato juice or a mixture of vinegar and water, or tide laundry detergent. The vinegar seemed to work the best for our dog. For any of them, its going to take a few baths to get the stink to be manageable. Good luck! Our dog Scarlett now answers also to Stinky because she got sprayed so many times. She was always stinky, so that's what people called her!

Dawn Dishwashing detergent, just becareful around the eyes.
Tomato juice is ok but takes a while, I use natures miracle skunk urine remover. You use it full strenght on the dog its made for this you can get it at any feed store or pet store. It works great!

Tomato juice is a waste of time...


1 quart (or liter) of 3% Hydrogen Peroxide, H2O2.


Use fresh (unopened) hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). Hydrogen peroxide eventually turns into water (H2O).


1/4 cup (50 ml.) of Baking Soda


1 teaspoon (5 ml.) of Liquid Soap


This has worked for me on 3 occassions! My dogs are stupid.

I used diluted lemon juice three day straight also vo5 makes A lime- apple shampoo which worked another time which is also easier on skin . The more fragrant the smell the better for skunk youll be covering the smell but it will wear off 3 to 5 days think air freshener
Yea I heard of that too but I think it will be hard because she has fur. Take her to a grooming place...that's the best it will probably get to take the smell away.
you can buy special treatments for skunk odors or make homemade recipes to get the smell out


you can probably just go to the vet to ask them to get it out


don't use tomato juice it don't even work

oatmeal baths and tomato juice are the best ways!! it'll take a while but worth it!
You can mix a deodorizing shampoo with household products. Mix equal parts of Baking Soda, peroxide and Dawn dishsoap. First put the baking soda,then add peroxide. Let the soda dissolve before adding Dawn. Shampoo your dog with it, letting it soak for a couple of minutes. Rinse and towel dry.
Bathe in tomato juice. It takes the smell right out. I had to use that on my dog that had a run in with a skunk and it works like a charm.
