How do we get rid of a skunk in the yard without harming it?

The skunk does not seem to be scared enough of us but I don't believe it to be rabid either. How do we get rid of a skunk in the yard without harming it?
Don't ever think that because an animal is not foaming at the mouth, or acting sick, it is not rabid. There are 2 types of rabies. The typical rabies that most people think of when you say 'rabies' is the classic foaming at the mouth, vicious, attacking without provocation, 'mad dog' look.

The other is called 'Silent Rabies'. It is called so because the animal will have absolutely NO symptoms other than possibly lethargy. But they are still contagious.

Besides the possibility of getting sprayed, skunks can be vicious. Do not trap them. I believe that most states have laws about moving and releasing wild animals without a license.

Have a professional wildlife removal service come and get them. They are licensed and should not hurt the animal, unless it becomes obvious that the animal IS sick. Then they will dispose of it. How do we get rid of a skunk in the yard without harming it?
Where I live here in Colorado, animal control does not remove and relocate skunks. There are several options.

One, contact your Division of Wildlife office (or their website). They usually list different methods of getting rid of wild animals. For skunks, at least here in Colorado, they advise to determine where the animal's den. You can then place a radio or boom box near it and play it loud enough that the animal will want to relocate itself. You can douse an old rag with amonia and place it in the entrance of the den. If the towel's been moved, then you know the skunk's still living there. I assume the skunk can get in and out of your yard freely. After the skunk has relocated, you can use whatever means necessary to secure the den (mesh or whatever).

Two, you can call a professional wild animal exterminator.

Three, you can buy skunk traps. I think you would then call the exterminator to pick up the skunk and relocate it.

Yep, I'd call for the professionals to come out and deal with the critter. Better them, than you. They have the training %26amp; skills %26amp; the paycheck to risk getting out there and getting sprayed by a skunk. Oh! And don't assume that he's not rapid, either. That's not something you should take a chance on.

You asked about what you can do to get rid of him. Can you identify anything that is attracting him to your yard/home? Food...., maybe?

Remove whatever is drawing him to you.....
Buy some peppermint oil at the health food store and put it around. Try leaving out a small radio. They are sensitive to sounds. If you see it ,sing loud and badly. He will start going the other way.
call animal control they wont kill it they will just relocate it to the wilderness away from residence
Maybe trap it in a cage and set it free in the forest.Good luck.
